PROCESS

Software Development Process

STEP 01

Discovery and scoping: problem, budget and solution outline. You get a fixed price before development starts.

Development in a fixed 6-week cycle that ends with working software in production.

STEP 03

Launch, software maintenance, support and the next development cycle.

What do API development and integration services include?

API development is the design and build of the interfaces that let software systems exchange data: a REST API for your mobile app, a partner API for your customers, or a webhook endpoint that receives events from a payment gateway. API integration is the other side: connecting your software to APIs that already exist, such as Stripe, Azul, CardNet, the DGII, the WhatsApp Business API or your accounting system.

DevLunch builds both. Typical projects: a backend API for an iOS and Android app, a payment gateway integration for an online store or subscription business, an e-CF electronic invoicing integration for a billing system, and data syncs between an ecommerce platform, an ERP and a CRM.

How do you integrate a payment gateway in the Dominican Republic?

Dominican businesses that charge local cards usually integrate Azul or CardNet. Both offer a hosted payment page, where the customer enters card data on the gateway side, and API options for more control over the checkout. Businesses that charge US customers or sell subscriptions in dollars often use Stripe.

A production payment integration covers more than the charge: payment confirmation handling, idempotent order updates so a payment is never recorded twice, refunds and voids, reconciliation reports and tests against the gateway sandbox before going live. For a full online store, see ecommerce development.

How to integrate DGII electronic invoicing (e-CF) into your system?

Electronic invoicing in the Dominican Republic uses electronic fiscal receipts (e-CF): signed XML documents sent to the DGII, which returns an acceptance status for each one. Law 32-23 makes e-CF mandatory in phases, by type of taxpayer.

There are two integration paths. A business can become an electronic issuer directly, which requires a digital certificate, XML signing and passing the DGII certification process. Or it can send its invoices through a DGII-authorized electronic invoicing provider, using that provider API. DevLunch builds either path into your existing billing, POS or ecommerce system.

How much does API development cost in the Dominican Republic?

For a business in the Dominican Republic, the cost of an API project depends on the number of systems involved, the quality of their documentation and how much data has to move. A single payment gateway or a well-documented third-party API is a small project. A full backend API for a mobile app, or several integrations with data migration, can take more than one cycle.

DevLunch prices work per fixed 6-week cycle (Shape Up). The scope is shaped with you first, then price and deadline are set before development starts. No hourly billing. Third-party fees (gateway commissions, API usage, digital certificates) are paid by the client directly to each vendor.

What makes an API integration reliable in production?

Most integration failures come from the other system: timeouts, rate limits, changed fields and duplicate webhooks. Every integration we build runs in background jobs (Sidekiq or Solid Queue) with retries, stores the raw request and response for auditing, and alerts your team when a sync keeps failing.

The APIs we build are documented, versioned and covered by automated tests. The client owns the repository and the code from day one, so any team can maintain the integration later.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

API integration connects two software systems so they exchange data automatically, for example your online store and a payment gateway, or your billing system and the DGII. It replaces manual exports, copy and paste and double data entry.
